when trying to pitch Andrew Bird to a friend.
me: you should listen to Andrew Bird.
friend: what's he do? what's he play?
me: well, he plays violin.
friend: okay, that's coo-
me: and guitar and glokenspiel, and whistles and uses a loop machine. and he uses these phonograph speakers connected to the loop machine and violin and it spins around and all the music comes flowing out it sounds like surround sound. you should see him in concert if you get the chance he's like a one man orchestra. sometimes he plucks his violin like a guitar and he'll loop certain pieces and then uses them throughout the song. so like he'll play something on violin, loop it, then whistle, and loop it ans then add on guitar and vocals. did I mention he sings too? he's got a beautiful voice, actually, he did a cover of It's Not Easy Being Green, funny story, he wrote a bunch of songs for The Muppets movie and none of them got used but they did use his whistling. but he's also known for his Bowl of Fire albums which all embrace this cool new orleans jazz vibe mixed in with vaudeville and bluegrass ...
friend: ...
me: do you want me to lend you my copy of Mysterious Production of Eggs? that's a pretty good album to start with.

unsungtale replied to your post: I know I’ve been missing a lot on here but I have… I kind of really want the presale bundle, but I’m going to be in class all day, and while I’ll have my laptop and could sneak an order in if I keep my credit card info in a file or something, the morning class (10-1) probably won’t be so. I am going to be at work so I just have to be really sneaky but I...

I know I’ve been missing a lot on here but I have been busy plus I sit in front of a computer all day at work and don’t want to be on one when I get home. Anyway… After a few listens, I decided I really like “Eyeoneye,” even though, you know, I had already heard live versions of it. Also, did you catch the description Pitchfork had of the pre-sale bundle? Oh. my....

Not everyone grows up to be an astronaut Not everyone was born to be a king Not everyone can be Freddie Mercury Everyone can raise a glass and sing Well I haven’t always been a perfect person And I haven’t done what mom and dad had dream But on the day I die I’ll say, at least I fucking tried That’s the only eulogy I need

chrt answered your question: But wait, are we not allowed to dislike The Age of Adz? why shouldn’t you be? I’d maybe say listen again. It’s a brilliant record. I feel like people get REALLY defensive about people not liking that album.

owsley answered your question: But wait, are we not allowed to dislike The Age of Adz? The album is OK to me. I haven’t listened to it enough to really judge it… but that just shows you even more that it’s not “great” imo. I really like him (consider him one of my top five favorite musicians) and I even bought it on vinyl the day it was released but I can’t get into it. It’s not for...

I kind of hate that album. I don’t think he sold out or anything, I just didn’t like it. I think we lose sight of the fact that sometimes, our favorites are capable of putting out music we don’t like, and that we don’t have to like everything.
